the lovely teaspoon interview and giveaway!!

I haven't known Ali that long but I met her on flickr and was just mesmerised by her creativity! She makes the most darling, fun and cute jewellery and accessories ever.
She's super cute, has great style, is very friendly and generous, she hosts constant giveaways of her own, I was lucky enough to win one of them!!!

If you haven't heard of The lovely teaspoon yet then you are in for a treat and if you have, well, let's get to know her better with this interview!!!

The lovely lady herself, told you she was super cute!!!

1. Tell us a bit about yourself, your background and how you got into creating The-lovely-teaspoon.
Hello dears. My name is Alicia aka Ali, I'm 24 years old, I grew up in Kentucky, USA and in 2004, year after I graduated, my boyfriend (now hubby) moved to Los Angeles, CA, USA to attend FIDM. After having twins in LA we moved back to KY to be closer to family. I've never really made jewelry until 2007, when I started The Lovely Teaspoon. I was a stay at home mum of twin infant boys in search of a hobby when my bff introduced me to Etsy. I've been hooked ever since.

2. What/who inspires you and why?
I spend so much time creating, taking care of family, etc that I rarely keep up with what's hip and trendy so if I hit a trend it's all on accident. The rare chances I'm shopping in a thrift store, flea market, etc I gain inspiration from what I find and see. Most cases I buy something i see potential in and create from there.

3. If you could take a 2 week vacation anywhere this summer, where would you go and why?
To the future!! Not sure what year(s) but I think it would be so much fun. I would love to time travel to the future to see what kind of great supplies I could find to use in creations and I would also love to see what kind of technological and scientific advances we have accomplished. I'm a geek! (I would probably go to Los Angeles, I miss LA, and Japan.)

4. How would you describe your wonderful style?
Potpourri Poser. It's true, I'm a poser. I switch my style pretty much on a daily basis. One day I'm casual and comfy and the next I'm dressed up. I may be hard core one day and the next girly-girl. I'm like a bag of potpourri, you never know what's exactly in it but it smells good, like me. ;)

5. What was the last book you read?
I'm such a sucker for cheesy romance novels, don't ask, so the last book I've read was Nerd in Shinning Armor by Vicki Lewis Thompson. I also like science related books but rarely read them, just collect them with my Physicist hubby.

6. How did you come up with your design name?
I've always wanted a bricks n mortar boutique with a teaspoon/tablespoon size chart. (1 tsp = size 2, 1 tbs = size 14, etc) Well, I haven't gotten one yet so when I was thinking of a name for my business I decided to incorporate the teaspoon in my name. Plus I wanted the word love or lovely in it so tada I came up with The Lovely Teaspoon.

7. When you were a child what did you want to be when you grew up?
Everything. When I was young I was more of a tom boy than a girly girl so when I hit high school I became more interested in fashion. Since then all I've wanted to do is dress up and try new things.

8. What do you love the most and least about yourself?
There's not a lot I like about myself. My least favorite is probably my overall appearance. I hate having to get ready to go out, I just get so discouraged and want to stay home but sometimes you just have to go. My most favorite is my pragmatic approach to politics and life.

9. You have beautiful twin boys, What is the one thing that you would want your children to learn about life from you?
This is such a hard question. There is so much I would like to teach my kids but I would also like my kids to have the opportunity to discover and learn about some parts of life on their own. I would like my kids to understand how big and diverse our world is. I want them to be able to explore different places, cultures, religions, etc so they can see how important each and every person can and is in this world.

10. What new goodies do you have in the pipeline right now, anything you can tell us?
Soon I will have original mini painting necklaces. My hubby will be painting 2" x 2" canvases, since I can't paint, and I will be making them into necklaces. Also I am working on some new glove designs that will premier this Fall.

My absolute favourite item HAS to be the Doll Arm Earrings! They remind me of a girl who was a few years ahead of me at school and she always had homemade keyrings on her bag which were made of brutally dismemebered Barbies. I used to LOVE her so much and I wonder if she still has those keyrings now?! ^^
