Homemade natural dog toothpaste!

I love my dogs so much and I want them to be here with me for as long as possible, which is why I feed mostly a raw meat and bones diet to them.
This diet helps both their health and wellbeing and is great for their teeth too.

I'm not always perfect though and do give my Chihuahua boys a "nice nice" which is basically a kong filled with yummy cooked treats like quinoa, sweet potato, sweetcorn, cooked turkey...it really depends on the day, oh and they also get a quail egg once a week.
I also sometimes give them something very naughty like a crisp or some biscuit :(
So I am not perfect and because of this some tartar started to build on their perfect teeth, oh no!
Once I got over my guilt I thought about how I must get to brushing their teeth again but I didn't want to use a tube of dog toothpaste that I had no idea what on earth it contained, so I decided to make my own.

I looked on the Internet and it seemed to be that bicarbonate of soda and oil was the main ingredient in homemade toothpaste for dogs.

The link below is the recipe I followed.
It gives you a rough guide on amounts, so eyeball it to get a nice consistency that looks/feels right.
recipe

Here are the ingredients.
 Jar
Cinnamon
bicarbonate of soda
coconut oil
salt
stock
Also boiled water

My dogs hate having their teeth brushed but it is so important for their health, unless you only feed raw meat and bones.

Dog's mouths are more alkaline which encourages plaque build up.
Plague builds on teeth, which is unhealthy bacteria and that bacteria can go into major organs in the body and cause all kinds of issues to the kindneys and heart, yikes.
Clenaing your dog's teeth can make them live longer!

Natural homemade flea repellent

It is that time of year in the U.K when the fleas are out and about ready to pounce on our fur babies.
Those pesky pests!

I stopped using chemical ridden and expensive flea treatments 12 years ago when one of my cats Oreo actually lost hair where the flea treatment was placed on the back of his neck...this really woke me up to what I was using on these trusting cats at the time. I realised how I was putting harsh chemicals on their skin every month...and therefore in the body of my precious cats, These harsh solutions were likely tested on animals too!

Since those early days I researched the heck out of the subject.
I have since only used natural flea repellents for my 2 dogs and 3 cats. In the 14 years I have had my cats they have only had fleas once..it was about 8 years ago.. we had such a wet summer that fleas were coming into the house and running rampant.

I am so thankful that I learnt all I did and that my 5 year old dogs have never ever had harsh chemicals in their system.

Our animal friends are far too precious for all those chemical ridden flea treatments.

All of my animals are fed a grain free, raw meat/bones/organ meat/eggs diet which makes them much less desirable to fleas and other bugs. Fleas are very attracted to animals that eat a grain based diet, since it makes them quite “yeasty.”  They also like pets with lower immune systems and who are not as healthy.

The more healthy your animal companion is, the less likely they are to be nibbled.

I make my own natural flea repellent! It's so easy to do.

All you need:

Spray bottle
lavender essential oil
Citronella essential oil
Tea tree essential oil
cheap vodka
water

To make things even easier, you can just use water and citronella oil as citronella mixes with water just fine...I say that as some essential oils need oil or alcohol to blend well.
I only added alcohol to help blend the lavender and tea tree  oils, as they do not blend well with water.
Put the lavender and tea tree in your bottle first and fill the bottle 1/8 with alcohol, mix well, then add water and citronella (leave an 1/8 of the bottle empty so that the solution has room to mix  and shake well)

Simply spray some solution close to your pets neck and base of tail and work in to their skin with your finger tips, avoid their ears, eyes and mouth.
Wash your hands after applying this solution to your fur baby just in case you have any on your hands..your pets hate the smell.

You can also use this to spray on your skin too, to act as an insect repellent.

Summer is here?

Morning!
Well here in my neck of the woods it has been divine.
Gorgeous weather...
My husband put our little summerhouse up at the end of the garden and we have all been enjoying it.
It needs sanding and painting (teal and cream) and floor covering..but it is wonderful. A welcome retreat from the sun, a place for me to craft, be with the fur babies and chat to a friend that pops over, bliss!
I am going to make some nice Cath Kidston Curtains and cushion covers, how twee!

A few snaps of how it is now...

Oreo sleeping on the chair.

Levi.

My strawberry plants seem to be doing pretty well, so far so good!

Captain.

Cuba.

Oreo again.

There is so much to be done in the garden...decking the patio and the area outside the summerhouse, new turf /lawn putting down, painting..but hope to be done by June, then we can lord it up in our sweet garden.
I am dying to plant some food too.

Loving it all!

My darling Levi......

Well this is typical of me..I don't blog for a bit and then I get all bloggy!

I just bathed the woofies and just had to snap some photos of my Levi bear.

Captain is wrapped like a burito in some snuggly fleece and won't come out for a picture but Levi is always a happy model :)

I love my dogs like nothing else!

Animals are my passion in life.

I have begun making Christmas gifts. There are a ton of fab ideas and tutorials online at the moment. I cannot wait to see people's faces when I give the gifts.
I LOVE giving prezzies as much as I love receiving them :)

spoiling the woofs!

I love my gorgeous little woofies!!
I just love to spoil them. They are my sweet babies!!
They have boxes full of toys and they have so many nylabones and other plastic type chews that sometimes it looks like a remains of some weird plastic-boned animal on the bed, or floor etc!

Anyway, I got them some tasty chocolate and vanilla flavoured plastic type chew bones today to spoil them. They've been so good!!

My heart and soul.....

Levi Sarsaparilla <3
Captain Cupcake <3

I love them so much!!

It makes me so sad to think of all the dogs without homes or without good homes.
Where I live there are neighbours that seem to keep their dogs out in the yard day and night..I find that so cruel. Dogs are pack animals and intelligent. They are full of love and want to be part of your life.
It's horrible hearing some darling dog crying outside for hours, ugh.

Dogs are the best!

I also adore my three beautiful kitty cats too.
A house with animals is a home.

Sorry..I'm just so soppy about these guys :)

Picture post!

Hi guys!!
I had a lovely day today, the sun was shining, the birds were singing, bliss.

Here is my natural home cleaning products!
From left to right; White vinegar,
surcare (cruelty free) laundry detergent,
Little bottle of orange essential oil,
Granny's soap flakes (cruelty free),
soda crystals,
bicarbonate of soda.

All the above is cruelty free and green too!

I decided to put all of the products into nice jars to make them easy to use and they look nice on display too :)

I'm going to do a vlog on cleaning with natural products sometime this month for you guys!

It was such a sunny day, the pups enjoyed basking in the sunshine :)
They are freshly bathed, don't they look gorgeous!!
Captain Cupcake on the left and Levi sasspirella on the right!

Cute cupcake tins I bought recently for half price in the sale!

The kitchen needed a plant, so I bought this pretty gerbera :)
I don't have a great green finger and things usually die on me, eep, but I am hoping she will fair well.

My pretty tea cups, not everyone's taste but I adore them!
Notice the cupcake tablecloth I got for half price, I do love a bargain!

So very in lub with my new melamine bowls, so vintagey looking! I'm using the smaller one as a fruit bowl and the pink larger one as a nice mixing bowl.

Recent ebay find, vintage little ceramic puppy, had to have him!
I love how innocent and playful he looks, just like a real puppy!

Another ebay find. Kinda strangely beautiful, had to have this, love the pretty colours on this piece so much.

Well, that's it for now, hope you enjoyed looking and comments always appreciated!!

My amazing dogs.

This is what Levi looked like on the first day he came to live with us. He is the baby of the family as Captain is three months older than him. Captain and Levi are brothers.

This is my beautiful Levi now. So handsome, so loving and LOTS of fun. He LOVES people and goes all silly puppy for a bit of attention from anyone:)

My beautiful baby deer Captain, he had a few issues when he came to live with us, a bit aggressive at times but we all feell in love and things got a lot better, also after he was fixed he calmed down a lot too. Having a brother helped him so much with his problems.

Now he is an adult, so beautiful, so loving and sweet and gentle, great with people, could not ask for sweeter and more loving dog.

I always wanted dogs and I had to wait until I was 33 years old to get these babies!! David just was not interested in getting them but when I got very sick with my tummy and fibromyalgia he bought me Captain for Christmas, yay! We were then given Levi as a gift by our wonderful friend Annie who means the world to us, who has become like a mother to us. She breeds Chihuahuas and we met though getting little Captain from her and just became great friends, she's amazing! More about Annie another time!

We did an interview of the dogs for a lovely lady over here;

Fantastic week!

What a fantastic week it has been!
Every day I have woke up this week I've been really stiff and in pain with my fibromyalgia but my new pain meds have worked wonders, enough for me to get myself to the spa every day and have a little swim, relax in the jacuzzi and steam room and also I had a great yoga class on Thursday too!
It's been a LOT of fun, it's helped my anxiety, pain and helped me to be a bit more sociable.
I'm so grateful my pain meds have really helped.
We are both going to the spa tonight and tomorrow is Yoga, the yoga teacher is super nice and said she would look up about my condition to make sure she helps me etc, how nice!
All this work is so good for my condition and I'm really hoping that in a few months time my body will be stronger. On all the Fibro websites it said swimming, water therapy and yoga were the best things so I'm doing everything right, plus I'm making diet modifications too, no sugar and more protein.
I'm pretty proud of myself because believe me, with my condition it makes everything so hard to do but I'm doing it!
Last night at the pool was particularly amazing as me and the hubs were the only ones in it!
We were pretending that it was our pool in our big mansion, haha!
At the spa you can have a quest for the day (for a fee) so my friend is coming over on Thursday and I'm totally treating her to Yoga and swimming, jacuzzi etc, what fun!
Then I'm taking her to the new sweet cupcake shop nearby, I'll take pics because it's so pretty!

My dogs are the cutest!!
I kept putting off the dogs booster shots as I was so anxious it would make them feel bad but I finally plucked up the courage and they were totally fine!
I think I was projecting because I'm so scared of needles or something.
They were just a little groggy for the rest of the day but by the next day, no different from their usual crazy selves;D
Thank you for all the lovely comment sabout my bunny doll btw! I decided to call her Flo, Flo the Bunny!
Oh and please check out my other blog for UK crafters. I feature UK artists on there;

Finbar Finton

Meet Finbar Finton, the lil bunny I designed yesterday!
I need to make him a tiny carrot and glue a tiny pom pom tail on him to finish him off still.
Isn't he cute!
I had a tiny white drawf rabbit as a child who I named Finbar Finton, they are Irish names are both mean white.
Cute capture of my woofs yesterday, they love eachother so much, it's adorable to watch them play bite-wrestle games and chase eachother around the room! It's nice that they always have someone to play with.

It's a beautiful day today and we are about to have a roast chiken din din, mmmm!!!!!!!
